Our snow has melted and we are anxiously awaiting warmer weather! Lindy and Beryl went to TNNA in Phoenix to finalize our spring orders, boxes are starting to arrive with lighter weight seasonal yarns and the new books are filled with up-to-date fashions for all skill levels. Rosa and Ripple are two of our first arrivals.

Rosa is a 100% textured cotton in soft earthy tones. “This thick-and-thin yarn adds a textural interest to even the simplest of styles.” The Valentine Vest, Postcard Pullover & Silver Dollar Duster (below) are just 3 of 19 pieces featured in the Collage Collection – new from TSC, Inc. for spring and available February 15th. Preview the entire collection on Tahki’s Facebook page and contact us to pre-order a copy.

Valentine Vest in Rosa

Ripple: “This thick-and-thin cotton yarn has enough texture to make even Stockinette look special. Its supple drape and subtle sheen make it eminently wearable and its ample yardage gives the knitter both value and style.” Both Ripple & Rosa arrived last week and are now in stock at Tricoter.

Postcard Pullover and Silver Dollar Duster both in Ripple

Last weekend Beryl, Lindy and Julie attended the Vogue Knitting LIVE fashion show in New York! While we might spend our days at Tricoter immersed in our ‘local world’ of knitting, our escape for a weekend of yarn, fashion and friends allowed us to feel as if we were in another world (let’s face it – New York is another world in itself!). Suffice to say, the time we spent in NYC went by much too quickly!

We were so excited to be participating in what is known as the ”ultimate knitting event from the ultimate knitting magazine.” For those of you who are hearing about it for the first time, Vogue Knitting LIVE New York (now in it’s second year) is a two-day event created by the highly renowned trade magazine that takes place at the Hilton New York. During those 48 hours, you can take classes, sample yarn, visit the bustling two-story “Marketplace,” buy and sell supplies, and attend fashion shows “featuring the hottest trends in knitwear.”

While the Marketplace and fashion show took up most of our time on the East Coast, we were able to squeeze in some fabulous food, worthwhile visits to some friends and some breathtaking views of Central Park in the wintertime. We stayed at the highly recommended Sherry-Netherland hotel in Midtown Manhattan. Food-wise, the most memorable restaurants were Becco, Seattle’s own Mario Batali’s Eataly, and Todd English’s The Plaza Food, where the Paella was to die for. And a BIG thank you to our friend Janice, owner of I Dream of Beading in Poughkeepsie, NY, who came down to help in our booth and made a lunch run on Saturday to the famous Carnegie Deli for mile high pastrami sandwiches!

We managed to squeeze in a visit with Linda Morse at her NY-based knitting shop String Yarns. If you are ever in New York, be sure to check out Linda’s hand-picked unique yarn collection at 33 East 65th Street.

As one out of 50+ vendors at the VK LIVE NY 2012 event, Tricoter’s participation in the show was extremely successful. Everyone truly loved our designs (which you can view and purchase here!) and were very complimentary of our booth in the Marketplace. Our most popular pieces were by far the Diamante DK Sweater (seen modeled by Julie in the video below) as well as the Stella Inspired Cardigan.

Diamante Video Highlight: Stacy Charles & Julie

Before the show took place, event director Gabrielle Ald said, “knitting is making a huge comeback…it’s about community, so what’s better than getting people live and in-person taking classes together?” While knitting has and continues to be a constant passion of ours, we couldn’t agree with Gabrielle more. The lively, personal, and hands-on characteristics of the Vogue Knitting LIVE! New York 2012 allowed us come together with amazing designers and fellow yarn store owners & knitters, gain feedback on our patterns & pieces, and take part in a truly unique experience in the world of knitting!

au revoir and happy knitting…
